Overview

What we cover.

Ductless mini-splits are our favorite tool for the tricky room. They deliver heating and cooling without ductwork, run quiet, and pair cleanly with smart thermostats. Modern cold-climate variants work in Duluth winters down to design conditions.

We install single-zone and multi-zone mini-split systems across the Twin Ports. Finished attics, additions, sunrooms, four-season porches, detached garages, accessory dwelling units, and tricky retrofits where running ductwork would be ugly or impossible.

When to call us

Signs you need mini-split service.

If one of these is happening at your house, do not wait. The longer you run it, the more it costs to fix.

Finished attic that gets too hot

Central system was never going to reach a converted attic. A single-zone mini-split solves it for a fraction of duct extension.

Garage or shop you want to use year-round

Detached or attached. Mini-splits run quiet and heat down to design conditions. Perfect for a workshop or studio.

New addition with no duct extension

Sunrooms, four-season porches, in-laws suites. Adding a head is faster, cleaner, and cheaper than running ducts.

One room is always uncomfortable

Hot upstairs, cold basement, an office in the back of the house. Often a one-room mini-split fix beats balancing the whole system.

You hate window AC units

Mini-splits are quieter, way more efficient, and look better. They also heat in shoulder seasons.

You want zone control without a remodel

Multi-zone mini-splits let you cool the rooms you use and ignore the ones you do not. Real savings without ductwork.

How we work

Four steps from your call to a comfortable home.

Walk-through

We see the room, talk through the use case, and identify the cleanest place to run the line set.

Honest sizing

Right-sized to the room. Oversized mini-splits short-cycle and cost more, undersized ones run constantly. We size to the actual load.

Clean install

Indoor head leveled, line set hidden or covered, condensate pumped or drained properly, no exposed copper running down the siding.

Commissioning

Refrigerant charge by weight, controls programmed, remote demo, and a one-year labor warranty in writing.

What it costs in the Twin Ports

Real numbers, before you call.

We are not afraid to publish prices. Final quotes are flat-rate, written, and itemized after we see your system.

Why us

Why homeowners pick Northland Air for mini-split.

Concealed line sets

We hide line sets in soffits, walls, and chases wherever practical. When we cannot, we use clean line-set covers. No exposed copper running across the front of the house.

Multi-zone expertise

Single outdoor unit driving 2-5 indoor heads is a great way to add comfort without adding equipment outside. We design and balance multi-zone systems for the real way you use the rooms.

Quiet operation

Modern inverter mini-splits run as quiet as a library. We commission them right so they stay quiet, no rattle, no resonance, no late-night fan hunting.

Real customer

What homeowners say about our mini-split work.

The crew that put our mini-split in our finished attic was professional, polite, and left it cleaner than they found it. They also took the time to show me how the remote worked. That kind of small thing is why we tell our neighbors.

How to size a mini-split system

Single head, multi-zone, or one per room.

Mini-splits work best when sized to the way you actually live in the space. Bigger is not better. Here is how we think about it.

FAQ

Mini-Split questions, answered.

Single-zone systems typically run $4,000 to $6,500 installed in the Twin Ports. Multi-zone systems with 2-4 indoor heads run $7,500 to $14,500. Federal 25C credit applies to qualifying cold-climate units.

Cold-climate models will. Standard mini-splits start losing capacity below 20 degrees. We spec cold-climate variants that deliver rated heat down to minus 5 and usable heat below that.

Indoor heads run 20-30 dB at low fan, quieter than a refrigerator. Outdoor units run 50-58 dB at full output, similar to a quiet conversation. Far quieter than a window AC.

Most single-zone mini-splits install in one day. Multi-zone systems with 3-4 heads take two days. We confirm timeline at the quote.

Yes. We pull every permit our work requires, included in the quoted price. The permit also documents the refrigerant work for resale.

Sometimes. For well-insulated homes with a heat-loss small enough to handle, multi-zone cold-climate mini-splits can be the primary heat. For most existing Twin Ports homes, mini-splits supplement rather than replace the central system.
